New Delhi, December 4 (IANS). As soon as winter arrives, fresh green vegetables start arriving in the market. Many vegetables including spinach, fenugreek, bathua, mustard and peas add to the traditional thali.
Although every vegetable has its own benefits, peas filled with small grains provide complete nutrition to the body along with taste.
According to Ayurveda, peas are said to be rich in nutrients. Its nature is mildly hot, which keeps the body warm. It can be called a natural heater in winter. It contains plant-based protein, which helps in repairing muscles, strengthening bones, improving eyesight and cleaning the intestines.
Peas contain high amounts of fiber, which helps in cleaning the intestines. Consuming peas keeps the stomach clean, detoxifies the liver and if there is a problem of constipation, it also goes away. The special thing is that due to poor lifestyle, nowadays the problem of inflammation in the intestines is being seen in people of all ages. Peas have the ability to reduce intestinal inflammation.
Consumption of peas also controls the amount of sugar in the blood. Compared to other green vegetables, peas have a lower glycemic index, due to which sugar does not increase rapidly after eating. In such a situation, even diabetic patients can consume peas well. Due to its fiber content, its consumption also reduces stomach related diseases.
Consumption of peas is also beneficial for the heart. It helps in reducing bad cholesterol in the blood and cleans the blood arteries, thereby maintaining proper blood flow. Due to this, pressure on the heart is reduced. Consumption of peas also improves eye vision. Peas contain lutein, zeaxanthin and vitamin A, which are boon for the eyes. Consumption of peas also reduces the risk of cataract.
To get the full benefit of peas to the body, one should also know the methods of consumption. Boil peas lightly and add light salt and ghee to it and eat it. If you are making pea soup, then add black pepper to it and use celery in pea curry, this doubles the benefits of peas.
