New Delhi, May 23 (IANS). At present, heat is at its peak in many states including Delhi. Meanwhile, Dr. Anabhuti Rana, Professor of Gynecology Department at AMM Delhi, while talking to IANS on Saturday, advised pregnant women to take special precautions. He says that heatwave can be dangerous for both mother and child, so it is important to take precautions.
Dr. Anbhuti Rana said that pregnancy in itself is a special and sensitive condition, in which the body needs more care than usual. In such a situation, when the temperature rises too much, it can affect both the mother and the child.
According to Dr. Rana, pregnant women are at greater risk of dehydration i.e. lack of water in the body during the summer season, hence it is important that they drink adequate amount of water and keep themselves hydrated. He said that not only water, but consumption of lemonade, shikanji and other liquids is also beneficial, which maintains the balance of electrolytes in the body.
He also advised that in this season, instead of working too much at one time, women should take rest in between. Working continuously for a long time can increase fatigue and weakness, which can be harmful during pregnancy, hence it is very important to take rest every now and then.
Regarding food, he said that pregnant women should take balanced and nutritious food. Light and fresh food gives energy to the body and does not put much burden on digestion in summer. He also said that fried or heavy food from outside can cause harm in this season, hence it should be avoided.
He also advised to avoid sunlight. He said that one should avoid leaving the house between 12 noon and 4 pm, when the sun is at its strongest. If absolutely necessary, go out only with utmost caution.
Regarding clothes, he also suggested that it is better to wear loose-fitting and cotton clothes, so that the body can get air and sweat can dry easily. Tight clothes can increase discomfort in summer.
