New Delhi, January 13 (IANS). Radish has been called a natural superfood in winter. The nutrients present in radish work to provide energy and strength to the body. It is also a boon for digestion, immunity and skin health. Many people consume it in the form of salad or soup, but it is important to know its correct method, time and quantity, so that its health benefits can be fully availed.
First of all, abundant amount of fiber is found in radish. It helps in digesting food in the body and removes problems like constipation. Apart from this, it contains Vitamin C, which is very important for increasing immunity. In winter, Vitamin C is needed more to protect against viruses and colds and radish provides it in natural form.
Radish also contains potassium, which helps in maintaining heart health, controlling blood pressure and maintaining muscle agility. Along with this, the antioxidants present in radish remove harmful toxins from the body and detoxify the body from inside.
There are different ways of eating raw radish. It can be grated and made into raita with curd, eaten as a salad by adding lemon and black salt, or cut into thin slices and consumed as a snack. According to Ayurveda, raw radish produces heat and strength in the body, hence eating it in cold season provides energy to the body and strengthens the digestive system.
Radish peel is also very useful. Fiber and many nutrients are present in its peel, so eating it along with the peel doubles the benefits of digestion and antioxidants.
Radish is not only helpful for digestion but also in providing relief from illness. The natural enzymes and fiber present in it activate the digestive system of the body, due to which food gets digested quickly and provides relief from problems like gas, acidity or heaviness.
Apart from this, radish has anti-inflammatory properties, which help in reducing swelling by removing the toxins and fluids accumulated in the body. In Ayurveda, it is considered a vegetable that reduces cold, cough and phlegm. It strengthens immunity by removing excess heat and toxins accumulated in the body and prevents infections.
Radish is a low-calorie and nutritious snack, which is also great for those on weight loss. However, eating too much radish in a day can cause gas or stomach pain, so around 100–150 grams a day is considered sufficient.
One should avoid eating radish at night. Especially if someone is suffering from thyroid problem or acidity then he should not consume radish. Apart from this, eating radish helps in detoxifying the body from inside. It also improves skin health. Eating radish regularly reduces wrinkles on the face and improves the skin.
