Rose Day: Rose is not just an expression of love, it is also a boon for health.

New Delhi, February 7 (IANS). Valentine Week has started with Rose Day. Rose flowers are not only a matter of love but are also very beneficial for health. In Ayurveda, rose is considered to have cooling effect, which reduces body heat and provides relief from many physical-mental problems.

Especially Gulkand, which is made from rose petals, is effective in relieving stomach problems and stress. Rose petals and Gulkand are very good for the digestive system. These have laxative properties, which easily relieve the problem of constipation. Gulkand calms the increased heat in the stomach i.e. gastric fire, provides relief from acidity and ulcer pain. Eating Gulkand regularly keeps Pitta Dosha balanced.

Not only this, problems like nosebleeds, burning sensation, fatigue and stomach heat also get reduced in summers. In today’s busy life, constipation, acidity and heartburn have become common. In such a situation, consuming one or two spoons of Gulkand every day can prove to be very beneficial.

Rose also works wonders in skin care. A face pack can be made by grinding desi rose petals and mixing them with a pinch of raw turmeric and a little milk. Applying it on the face reduces blemishes, acne and allergies and also makes the face glow. Rose oil is also useful in severe headaches like migraine. In case of headache, adding 4-5 drops of rose oil in hot water and taking steam provides relief from pain and also reduces stress.

The sattvik properties of rose keep the mind calm. It helps with problems like anxiety, stress and insomnia. In Ayurveda, rose is considered to nourish both the heart and mind.

Gulkand is especially beneficial for women. It reduces menstrual irregularities, excessive bleeding and bile related problems. It also soothes stomach irritation and heat in pregnant women. Gulkand is also effective in curing mouth ulcers.
