Sensitive initiative of UP Tourism: 30 cancer patients took 'Journey of Hope', brought smiles in Lucknow Darshan

Lucknow, February 3 (IANS). Before World Cancer Day, setting an example of human compassion and social concern, Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) organized a special ‘Lucknow Darshan’ for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Under this initiative, 30 cancer patients interviewed the heritage, culture and glorious history of the capital in a double decker electric bus.

With the aim of bringing smile on the faces and instilling hope in the minds of cancer patients going through the difficult phase of treatment, a special ‘Lucknow Darshan’ tour was organized by UPSTDC on Monday from 12 noon to 3 pm.

This visit, apart from the regular services of Lucknow Darshan, was especially dedicated to the patients. Held with patients of different age groups in the presence of doctors and paramedical staff, the aim of the visit was to provide a temporary respite from the hospital routine and to connect the patients with the cultural heritage of the city in an open environment. During the tour, peace, enthusiasm and positive energy were clearly visible on the faces of the passengers.

Uttar Pradesh Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that this event is not just a tourism program but an effort related to human sensitivity. He said that the basic objective of this initiative is to boost the morale of cancer patients undergoing treatment in hospitals for a long time by connecting them with the cultural heritage of the city. This gives the message that tourism is not just a tour but also a powerful medium for fulfilling one’s responsibility towards the society. Uttar Pradesh Tourism will take forward such sensitive and inclusive initiatives in future also.

The patients participating in the visit described this initiative as memorable. Patient Rajni Verma said that coming out of the hospital room and seeing the city was a very special experience for her, especially seeing the Vidhan Sabha from inside will be remembered throughout her life.

Meanwhile, patient Arun Kumar Gupta told that due to illness the journey was not possible, but this tour again made him feel happy and positivity. Dr. Abhishek, who was present with the patients, said that the patients looked excited and happy during the journey. Such experiences are extremely beneficial for mental health.

Keeping in mind the health of the patients, light and nutritious food was provided in the bus as per the advice of doctors. At the end of the tour, souvenirs were also presented to all the passengers.
