Hyderabad, May 21 (IANS). Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are in the grip of extreme heat and heat wave. The temperature in Piduguralla in Andhra Pradesh reached 48.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday, while Dilawarpur in Telangana recorded 46.5 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures of 46 degrees Celsius or more were recorded in 19 districts of Telangana, while the mercury crossed 45 degrees Celsius in 18 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
In view of the record level of heat in both the states, the administration has appealed to the people to remain alert.
Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, Prakash Jain said that Piduguralla in Palanadu district recorded a maximum temperature of 48.1 degrees Celsius. He said that the temperature remained more than 45 degrees in 18 districts of the state.
He said that the temperature was recorded more than 44 degrees Celsius in 200 divisions of 20 out of 28 districts of the state. It was the hottest in 26 divisions of Palanadu district. Apart from this, severe heat wave also occurred in 23 mandals of Prakasam, 22 of Krishna, 21 of Eluru, 20 of Bapatla, 15 of NTR, 14 of Guntur and 11 of Markapuram.
Prakash Jain warned that the extreme heat is likely to continue till May 25. He advised people to avoid traveling between 11 am and 4 pm.
He said that there is a possibility of severe heat wave conditions in 15 divisions and normal heat wave conditions in 219 divisions on Friday.
The temperature is likely to remain between 45 to 47 degrees Celsius in some areas of Alluri Sitarama Raju, Polavaram, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram and Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Whereas in some parts of Kakinada and Nellore districts, the temperature may remain between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures are expected to range between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Cuddapah, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts.
In Telangana, Dilawarpur in Nirmal district recorded the highest temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius. At the same time, a temperature of 46.4 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dharmasagar of Hanamkonda, Choppadandi of Karimnagar and Odela of Peddapalli.
Endapalli in Jagtial, Jangaon, Penuballi in Khammam, Asifabad in Kumaram Bheem, Kotapalli in Mancherial and Balkonda in Nizamabad recorded a temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius.
According to IMD, there is a possibility of heat wave in parts of Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhoopalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Nagarkurnool districts of Telangana on Friday.
