New Delhi, April 20 (IANS). As soon as the heat starts, the body also starts sweating. In humid weather, this sweat maintains moisture everywhere from clothes to shoes. This is the reason why many people are troubled by the smell coming from shoes in this season. The shoes appear clean from outside, but the smell coming from inside makes them quite uncomfortable.

According to scientists, the main reason for bad smell in shoes is the combination of sweat and bacteria. Our feet have more sweat glands than any other part of the body. When we wear shoes, the movement of air gets limited, due to which sweat gets trapped inside. This moisture gradually creates a favorable environment for bacteria and fungus to grow. These microorganisms break down sweat and dead skin particles and during this process a strong odor is produced. This is the reason why the smell increases when shoes are worn in summer.

To overcome this problem, it is not necessary to wash shoes every time. Some easy home remedies help reduce moisture and bacteria.

Baking soda is quite effective in this case, as it naturally absorbs moisture and eliminates odor-causing substances. If it is left inside the shoes overnight, the smell reduces considerably by morning. Similarly, a mild solution of vinegar and water also helps in reducing bacteria, because antibacterial properties are found in vinegar. By using it as a light spray, the smell inside the shoes can be controlled.

Not only home remedies, but also some everyday habits can reduce this problem to a great extent. One should avoid wearing the shoes continuously so that they can get air and the moisture accumulated inside can dry out. It is also very important to wear clean and dry socks, because socks prevent sweat from reaching the shoes directly. Also, shoes should be kept in open air after use so that moisture accumulated in them can be reduced through natural ventilation.
