New Delhi, October 27 (IANS). Shoulders are the silent warriors of our upper body, giving us strength, balance and expression. We use them all the time in everyday tasks, whether it’s carrying a bag, hugging someone or simply reaching for something. But most people do not understand the importance of shoulders until they feel pain or stiffness.
The structure of the shoulder is quite complex. In this, three main bones work together. The humerus (upper arm bone), scapula (shoulder bone) and clavicle (clavicle). Around these bones there is a group of muscles called the rotator cuff which keeps the shoulder stable and mobile. For this reason, we can rotate our hands almost 360 degrees, which is not possible in any other joint of the body.
Shoulders are not only a reflection of physical strength but also of confidence and emotions. When we are tired or sad, our shoulders automatically droop and when we are full of confidence, they remain straight. This is the reason why in Ayurveda, shoulders have been called Balasthan i.e. the basis of strength and stability of the body.
Shoulder problems are very common in today’s lifestyle. Problems like frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injury or arthritis are often seen. To avoid these, some easy home remedies are very effective.
Massage with mustard or sesame oil daily, it increases blood flow and reduces stiffness. Yoga asanas like Gomukhasana, Garudasana and Adho Mukha Svanasana make the shoulders flexible and strong. If there is pain or swelling, alternate between cold and hot compresses.
Include things rich in calcium and vitamin D in the diet like milk, sesame, figs and cheese. Also, herbs like Ashwagandha and Hadjod are considered very beneficial for joints.
