Tokyo, May 25 (IANS). A man sprayed some spray at a shopping complex in Tokyo’s Ginza area on Monday. After this, the health of many people present there started deteriorating. One person was taken to hospital after his condition worsened and about 20 people started complaining of being sick.
After the incident, a woman made an emergency call and said that a ‘strong and pungent smell’ had spread in the Ginza Six shopping complex and everyone present there was coughing.
According to Japan’s Kyodo News, CCTV footage showed a man spraying an unknown substance inside the building. It was told that after this he ran away from the spot and the police is searching for him.
A woman present there said that she saw many people holding their mouths in distress and that her own throat still felt ‘numb and painful’.
In a separate incident on April 29, a man allegedly attacked two high school students with a hammer and also sprayed an unknown substance on police officers in Tokyo’s Fussa area.
The incident occurred on a road at 7:20 am (local time) on Monday. One student suffered facial injuries while the other suffered injuries on his shoulder. Kyodo News quoted police as saying that the man who attacked was 40 years old.
According to police, the fight started when the man’s mother asked some students who were talking on the road to keep quiet but they did not listen. After this, a person present in the nearby area made an emergency call and informed that a man was attacking with a hammer.
When the police reached the spot and were talking to the man’s mother, the man threatened the police with a knife he had brought from home and then sprayed an unknown substance on them, injuring three policemen.
The police then raided his house as they suspected that he was hiding inside but all they found there was a hammer, a knife and a spray gun. CCTV footage also showed that after spraying the police, the man fled through the back door of the house. However, no one’s condition was said to be life-threatening.
