New Delhi, December 24 (IANS). Winter mornings have their own fun. Mild cold, fog and golden rays of the sun… it is not only comfortable for the body and eyes, but is also very good for health. Our elders always used to say that we should sit in the sun for some time every day.
Today science also believes that sunbathing in winter is not just relaxing but also a boon for the body and mind.
Sunlight is a factory of natural nutrients for our body. When the sun’s rays fall on the skin, the body starts producing Vitamin D. It is very important for bones, muscles and immunity. Especially in winter, when the sun shines less, its importance increases.
The great importance of sunlight has also been mentioned in Ayurveda. Kapha and Vata doshas increase in winter, due to which the body feels lethargic and stiff. Sunlight provides heat and energy to the body, which removes inertia, pain caused by cold and lethargy.
Just 20-30 minutes of proper sunlight is sometimes more effective than supplements. Bones become stronger, joint pain reduces, calcium absorption improves and weakness does not increase in children and elderly people. Sunlight increases serotonin hormone, improves mood, reduces stress and also improves sleep quality. This is the reason why Ayurveda considers it a medicine that pleases the mind.
Sunlight activates blood circulation in the body, provides relief from cold and numbness of hands and feet, activates immune cells and protects against winter infections.
Sunlight from 9:00 to 11:00 am is most beneficial. During this time, wear light clothes and take sunlight from the back. Remember, Vitamin D is not produced by sitting behind glass.
