Nagpur, April 15 (IANS). President Draupadi Murmu attended the convocation ceremony of AIIMS Nagpur in Nagpur, Maharashtra on Wednesday. On this occasion, the President said that the medical field is not just a profession, it is a medium to serve humanity with sensitivity. A doctor not only treats diseases but also instills hope in the minds of sick people.

He said that the empathetic advice given by doctors provides strength not only to the patient, but also to their family. Often, doctors face challenging situations, yet, even in such circumstances, they must maintain sensitivity towards the patient and their family. Patients and their families should also always have respect for medical professionals. This is essential to maintain the bond of trust between the doctor and the patient.

President Murmu said that good health of citizens is as important for the progress of the nation as their personal well-being. To ensure that citizens remain healthy and are able to contribute to their full potential in nation building, the Government of India has taken several important steps over the last decade. The establishment of new AIIMS across the country has not only increased access to better medical treatment but also broadened opportunities for medical education. He expressed happiness that within just a few years of its establishment, AIIMS Nagpur has established itself as a leading center of medical education, research and excellent health services.

He further addressed the program and said that the present era is a time of rapid change in the healthcare sector. Unprecedented progress is being made in the medical field across the world through new technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital health services and advanced research. We should move forward adopting these changes. Technological advances should be leveraged to bridge the disparity in health facilities between rural and urban areas and ensure that quality health care is accessible to all. He expressed happiness to know that AIIMS Nagpur is continuously working in this direction.

The President said that doctors have a high position in the society. People respect and trust them. They entrust doctors with the responsibility of protecting their health and life and that of their loved ones. Therefore, it is the social and moral duty of doctors to keep the interests of their patients paramount. By performing this duty sincerely, they can further enhance their reputation and that of the medical profession.

The President said that along with the spirit of service, doctors should also develop a commitment to lifelong learning. Curiosity is the foundation of progress. The urge to find new solutions in medical science will not only help them become exceptional doctors but will also provide them with more opportunities to serve. He advised the young doctors to imbibe the spirit of innovation, research and continuous learning. He also said that they should always keep in mind that moral values have the highest place in the field of medicine. He said that no matter how advanced technology becomes, it can never replace compassion, honesty and patient-centric approach. He urged them to always nurture the spirit of compassion.

The President said that people associated with the medical world are fortunate to have a unique opportunity to serve humanity. They should be proud of this responsibility and perform it with sensitivity. He expressed confidence that the graduating students will not only be successful in their personal lives but will also contribute to keeping fellow citizens healthy. On the strength of such efforts, we will be successful in achieving the goal of a developed India by the centenary of independence.
