New Delhi, 29 September (IANS). The treasure of our health rests on a balanced lifestyle. There is also a truth that the relationship of our health is not only with the body, but the whole environment. It is now that experts are now calling ‘Health in Ecosystem’. This means – if our environment is balanced and healthy then we will also be healthy. WHO also inspires the world with this.

Today, when the challenges of climate change and pollution are increasing, the idea of ’Health in Ecosystem’ reminds us that humans and nature are not separate, but part of the same cycle. If we protect nature, it will also return us the gift of better health. The real message of sustainable lifestyle is a healthy planet, a healthy person.

From air, water and soil quality to our dining plate, everything affects our health. Polluted air does not just bring respiratory diseases, but also increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Vegetables and grains grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides slowly dissolve poison in our body. This is the reason that ‘continuous lifestyle’ means sustainable lifestyle, today has become an important movement.

The report of the World Health Organization states that every year around 70 lakh people worldwide die ahead of time due to diseases related to pollution. At the same time, the study of ICMR (2023) in India found that due to environmental reasons, cases of respiratory disease and heart disease have increased. This directly affects not only our age but also on the quality of life.

It is not difficult to adopt a continuous or balanced lifestyle. This means small changes that are good for both our earth and body, such as eating local and seasonal fruits and vegetables, using re-used material instead of plastic, walking or cycling to reduce carbon footprint, and control the energy consumption of the house. These changes improve our health naturally and protect the environment for generations to come.

New research is also showing that plant-based diet, organic farming and traditional food habits are not only a good source of nutrition but also reduce our earth’s burden. A study published in the Lancet in 2024 clearly stated that if the people of the world bow down to a diet based on plants, then not only the risk of heart disease and obesity will be reduced but the emission of greenhouse gases will also decrease.
