Ujjayi Pranayama: The technique of yoga that heals from within

New Delhi, April 23 (IANS). To remain physically and mentally healthy, it is very important to make yoga a part of the daily routine along with eating right. By practicing yoga for just a few minutes every day, you can feel a calm, healthy and balanced change in your life.

There is a very effective breathing technique in yoga called Ujjayi Pranayama. It helps in bringing control and balance to both body and mind. In Ujjayi Pranayam, the breath is taken in and out slowly, deeply and with little sound. In this, breathing is done by slightly contracting the back part of the throat. This may seem a little awkward at first, but with practice it becomes very intuitive.

It strengthens our digestive system. When we take deep and controlled breaths, the supply of oxygen inside the stomach improves. This provides relief from problems like gas, indigestion and heaviness. Throat and thyroid health also improves. Ujjayi Pranayama creates gentle pressure in the throat area, which has a positive effect on the thyroid gland. It is considered very useful for those who are suffering from thyroid problems.

Apart from this, this pranayama is also very beneficial for the heart and lungs. When we breathe slowly and deeply, lung capacity increases and the heart also gets better oxygen. This improves blood circulation and the body feels more energetic.

A big benefit of Ujjayi Pranayam is that it reduces stress and anxiety. Its rhythmic breathing calms the mind and relaxes the nervous system. It helps in concentrating the mind.

Keep in mind, it should not be done forcefully. Breathing should be natural and comfortable. If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, stop immediately.
