New Delhi, January 8 (IANS). In winter, the cold air and coldness of the floor directly reaches the inside of the body and has the biggest impact on the feet. In such a situation, if the feet are not kept warm and clean, then problems like difficulty in sleeping, stiffness of the feet, cramps and pain arise.
According to Ayurveda, there are about 72,000 nadis in the feet, which are connected to the rest of the body and the brain. Because of this, coldness of feet is not limited to just the feet, but affects the entire body and mental state.
In winter, cold, dryness and heaviness increase Vata dosha. When Vata is unbalanced, it can lead to stiffness in the nerves, fatigue in the body, lack of sleep and sometimes even digestive problems, hence keeping the feet warm and relaxed has great importance in Ayurveda.
An easy remedy at home is to soak your feet in lukewarm water for 5-10 minutes before sleeping at night. If you want, you can add rock salt or sesame/mustard oil in it. This provides warmth to the nerves, increases blood circulation, and calms both the body and mind.
Applying light oil or ghee after washing feet is also beneficial. It not only prevents the heels from cracking but also makes the skin of the feet soft and supple. If you are very tired or stressed then add 1-2 drops of eucalyptus or lavender oil in water. Its fragrance directly affects the limbic system of the brain and reduces mental stress. By doing this regularly, one gets sleep quickly, the fatigue of the day is reduced and all the problems related to cold feet in winters go away.
Foot care is not only important to keep the body warm, but also for sleep, mental peace and overall health. Small steps like lukewarm water, light oil and wearing cotton socks can make your nights comfortable and keep both body and mind strong in winter.
