New Delhi, December 2 (IANS). Hair fall has become everyone’s concern these days. This could be due to stress, wrong eating habits, change in weather or dryness of the scalp. In Ayurveda it is mainly associated with Vata increase.
Night time is considered best for the scalp because the body is in repair mode at this time and nutrition reaches the hair roots. Therefore massaging with oil at night is very beneficial for hair.
Proper massage can reduce hair fall and also make hair strong and shiny.
Oil massage strengthens the hair follicles of the scalp and improves blood circulation. This brings moisture and warmth to the scalp, provides nutrition to the hair roots and also reduces stress.
In Ayurveda, it is advised to include it in regular routine. It is also said in Charak Samhita that regular massage of the head stabilizes both the hair and the mind. Massage at night also helps in deep sleep.
Coconut oil is good for cooling effect, sesame oil prevents hair fall, amla-bringraj oil helps in hair growth and oil containing neem or bitter gourd is beneficial in fungal infections.
For massage, heat the oil slightly and gently massage in circular motions with the tips of your fingers. Do not apply too much force, 5-10 minutes of light pressure and tapping is enough. Spread the oil all over the scalp and leave it overnight. Wash with mild shampoo the next day.
Oil massage 2-3 times a week is sufficient, but if the hair is very weak or is falling due to stress then you can do it daily also. The effect can be further increased by adding mild garlic, Bhringraj powder, Amla or fenugreek to the oil. With such regular nightly massage, the difference starts to be felt in just two weeks.
