New Delhi, March 2 (IANS). Morning breakfast is not just a means to satisfy hunger, but is also the biggest basis of health and energy for the whole day. According to health experts, people who eat breakfast regularly remain more active and fresh throughout the day.

Skipping breakfast has a bad effect on both the body and mind, which can cause many problems.

The National Health Mission explains why breakfast is important; after a long fast overnight, there is lack of energy in the body. Morning breakfast fulfills this deficiency and gives instant energy to the body. This activates the metabolism faster, which improves the process of burning calories throughout the day. If breakfast is not taken, metabolism slows down, which increases the risk of weight gain.

Having breakfast also keeps the mood good. By consuming nutritious food in the morning, hormones like serotonin and dopamine work better, which makes the person feel relaxed, happy and energetic.

Skipping breakfast leads to irritability, fatigue and weakness. Breakfast is also very beneficial for weight control. Studies show that people who eat breakfast have a significantly lower risk of obesity. Skipping breakfast makes one feel more hungry during the day and people start eating more, especially the inclination towards junk food increases.

Breakfast is also a boon for the brain. It enhances concentration, memory and decision making ability. Nutritious breakfast in the morning is very important for school-college going children and office goers. It should include items rich in protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals like milk, fruits, oats, porridge, upma, poha, idli, paratha, nuts etc.

Not having breakfast can make you feel tired and weak. Decrease in concentration and memory, slowing down of metabolism and weight gain along with acidity, headache and dizziness are also included. Due to this, the sugar level can also become uncontrolled along with irritability and stress throughout the day.
