New Delhi, March 18 (IANS). Keeping fast during Navratri is not just a religious tradition, but there is also deep Ayurvedic thinking hidden behind it. Often people associate it only with worship or faith, but if understood from the point of view of Ayurveda, it is a great opportunity to reset the body from within.
Actually, Navratri comes at a time when the weather is changing. This change directly impacts our body. According to Ayurveda, during this period, Vata and Pitta doshas can become unbalanced in the body, which weakens digestion and increases the risk of diseases. In such a situation, when we keep fast during Navratri and eat light, satvik food like fruits, buckwheat, water chestnut, curd or sago, our digestive system gets some rest. The pressure created by eating heavy, fried and spicy food every day reduces. This gives the body time to heal itself.
Digestive power (Agni) is considered very important in Ayurveda. If Agni is strong, the body remains healthy. By fasting, this fire becomes active again and the toxins accumulated in the body start coming out. This is the reason why people feel lighter and more energetic during fasting.
Not only the body, Navratri fasting also affects the mind. During this time, people follow meditation, worship and restraint, which provides mental peace. In today’s busy life, it works like a kind of mental detox, where you slow yourself down and balance yourself from within.
Another interesting thing is that most of the food items eaten during Navratri are satvik, which are not only easy to digest but also provide essential nutrition to the body. These foods keep the body light and help in increasing immunity, which prevents seasonal diseases.
