New Delhi, June 3 (IANS). Children and aging people have to bear the most impact of changes in weather. At the same time, due to the scorching heat in many parts of the country, the elderly are facing physical and mental heat. In such a situation, the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India advises to include Shitali Pranayam in the daily routine, which can be an effective solution to remove the heat from the body and mind.

This ancient yogic breathing practice cools the body from within and also reduces stress. In Shitali Pranayam, the tongue is taken out and folded in the shape of a tube and the breath is slowly inhaled. After this, breath is exhaled through the nose by closing the mouth. This simple exercise helps to balance the internal heat of the body. Especially with increasing age, when increasing body heat, irritability and sleep problems become common, Sheetali Pranayama proves to be extremely beneficial.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, this pranayama not only cools the body but also keeps the mind calm. This reduces fatigue, irritation and stress caused in summer. Regular exercise keeps blood pressure under control and the digestive system also gets strengthened. With increasing age, problems like joint problems, anxiety and insomnia increase. Sheetali Pranayam is helpful in reducing these problems in a natural way.

This time the theme of International Yoga Day 2026 has been kept as “Yoga for healthy old age”. In such a situation, the Ministry is advising people to include such easy yoga exercises in their daily routine which maintain health, balance and happiness at every stage of age. Shitali Pranayam is one of these exercises.

To practice Shitali Pranayam, sit in a calm and clean place, keep your eyes closed and leave the body loose. Take out the tongue and make it like a tube. After this, slowly inhale through the mouth. During this, close your mouth and exhale through your nose. Initially do it 5-10 times, later you can increase the time.

Experts say that it is best to practice it in the morning and evening during the summer season. This not only reduces physical heat but also provides mental peace. With increasing age, this practice proves helpful in maintaining energy and living a stress-free life.
