New Delhi, October 28 (IANS). Cholesterol is an essential element for our body, because it helps in the formation of cells, hormones and Vitamin-D. But, when its quantity increases excessively, it becomes harmful for the body. Increased cholesterol can accumulate in our arteries and cause blockages, heart disease and stroke.
In Ayurveda, cholesterol has been called a meda dhatu disorder. This problem occurs when body fat increases and digestive fire becomes weak.
The main reasons for increase in cholesterol are eating fried and junk food, consumption of excess oil and ghee, lack of physical activity, stress, smoking, alcohol and lack of sleep. With increasing age, the body’s metabolism also slows down, due to which fat starts accumulating.
Many home and natural remedies have been suggested for this in Ayurveda. Garlic is the most effective remedy. Eating 2-3 raw buds on an empty stomach in the morning thins the blood and reduces bad cholesterol.
Amla strengthens the liver and prevents fat accumulation in the body. Take one spoon of dried Indian gooseberry powder with lukewarm water daily. Fenugreek seeds are also very beneficial. Taking one spoon of powder on an empty stomach in the morning reduces the absorption of fat in the body.
Apart from this, boiling coriander seeds and drinking its water twice a day reduces cholesterol naturally. Mixing equal amounts of Giloy and black pepper powder and taking it twice a day reduces the toxins in the body and strengthens the liver.
Along with this, change in lifestyle is also very important. Walking for at least 30 minutes every day, doing yoga or pranayam, staying away from stress and getting enough sleep keeps cholesterol under control. Stay away from smoking and alcohol, use stairs instead of lift.
Talking about diet, include fresh fruits, green vegetables, whole grains and oats in your diet.
If cholesterol is very high, then some Ayurvedic medicines like Arjuna Churna, Triphala Churna and Yograj Guggulu can be consumed.
