The victim of the 2017 Unnao rape case on Sunday said she is confident that she will get justice from the Supreme Court. She appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure her safety so that she can fight her legal battle without any fear.
The incident comes after the Delhi High Court recently granted conditional bail to former Uttar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 rape case.
Speaking during a protest organized by the All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) in Delhi today, the Unnao rape victim claimed that Sengar had bribed officials, including the CBI investigating officer and a Delhi High Court judge, and said that her family has suffered dire consequences since Kuldeep Singh Sengar was granted bail.
The rape victim told ANI, “I am confident that I will get justice in the Supreme Court. Kuldeep Sengar has bribed the (Delhi High Court) judge and the CBI investigating officer. My husband’s job has been taken away, my children and witnesses are in danger. Those whom we will name before the CBI, they should be provided security. I request Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to provide me security in such a way that I can fight my battle fearlessly.”
Meanwhile, members of the All India Progressive Women’s Organization (AIPWA) protested in Delhi in support of the Unnao rape victim and demanded justice and adequate security for the victim and her family.
The protesters raised slogans and waved posters with slogans like “Activists in jail, rapists on bail”, “Zero tolerance towards rapists”, “Cancel Kuldeep Singh’s bail”.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on December 29 the appeal of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend the life sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the Unnao rape case.
A vacation bench of three judges headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will hear the CBI petition.
Sengar was convicted in the Unnao rape case in December 2019 and was sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25 lakh.
Although he has got bail in this case, he will remain in jail as he is serving a 10-year sentence in another CBI case related to the murder.
