Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday congratulated Mahayuti alliance leaders in Maharashtra for their landslide victory in the state’s local body elections, as the Bharatiya Janata Party claimed to have won over 150 seats across the state and got 3,300 councilors elected.
Union Minister Shah also thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar and all the workers of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Shah wrote on “I convey my best wishes to Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar and all NDA workers.”
He said, “Also, congratulations to state president Ravindra Chavan and all workers of BJP Maharashtra for BJP’s victory on maximum seats!” Counting of votes for 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats began at 10 am today. The elections were held in two phases, with some councils voting on 2 December and others on 20 December.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today claimed that around 129 city council presidents of the BJP have been elected. He said, “The three parties in the alliance (Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP (Ajit Pawar)) together hold 75% of the municipal council presidents. Talking about councillors, more than 3300 BJP candidates have been elected.”
Elections to 17 local bodies were held in Pune district, and the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance could not even open its account. The local body elections are also being seen as a preparation for the much-awaited political contest on January 15, when voting will take place for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ,BMC), Pune Municipal Corporation and over 20 other municipal corporations. Voting for BMC and other bodies is scheduled for January 15, and counting will take place on January 16. ,
