Complete incident: How the panic spread
There was chaos in two colleges of Delhi University on Wednesday due to bomb threat. Police received information that a threatening e-mail had come at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday night, in which it was said that there would be bomb blasts at three places at 1 pm the next day.
As soon as the e-mail was received, both the colleges informed the police. Police, bomb disposal team and dog squad immediately reached the campus and started searching the entire building.
Relief found in investigation
During a thorough search, no explosive or suspicious object was found in the college premises. After investigation, police officials declared the threat to be fake and said that the e-mail was sent from a foreign server.
The police had evacuated the campus as a precautionary measure and all the students and staff were evacuated safely.
Fake e-mails have increased in the last few months
For the last 6–7 months, fake bomb threat e-mails are being continuously sent to schools, colleges, hospitals and offices in Delhi-NCR. The police have also detained minors in many cases.
