There is an important news for the passengers traveling from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI) of Ahmedabad. From March 29, 2026, all domestic flights of Air India and Air India Express will now operate from Terminal 2 (T2) instead of Terminal 1. If you are coming from Gulf countries or abroad and have to catch an onward connecting flight, this change will make your journey easier.
What is going to change from 29th March
According to the airport operator, this change will be effective with the summer schedule coming into effect from March 29. Till now Air India’s domestic flights operated from Terminal 1, but now all 38 domestic flights of the airline will be shifted to Terminal 2. This simply means that now both international and domestic operations will be under one roof, due to which passengers will not have to rush to change terminals.
Officials said that the work of shifting ground handling staff and machines has started. To ensure that passengers do not face any problem, the airline is sending information through SMS and email. If you have already booked a ticket, then definitely check your flight details and terminal information once so that there is no confusion at the airport.
Passengers will get new facilities and easy transit
With the shift to Terminal 2, passengers will benefit from many new facilities. After an upgrade of Rs 450 crore, 24 new check-in counters have been built here, which will eliminate long queues during check-in. Apart from this, a new domestic lounge of 5,000 square feet has also been opened for the passengers, which was not present here earlier.
Especially for those passengers who come from abroad and catch further domestic flights, this is a news of relief. Now they will not have to go out to change the terminal. However, Air India has advised keeping at least 75 minutes time in hand for transit in the first week of April, so that no one misses the flight till the system is settled.
