Congress leader Rashid Alvi has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is planning to oust Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from state politics by offering him a seat in the Rajya Sabha. On speculation of Nitish Kumar’s possible transfer to the Rajya Sabha, Alvi claimed that the move has been taken to gain “complete control over Bihar” so that the BJP can install its own Chief Minister in Bihar.
Speaking to ANI, Alvi said, “BJP’s policy has been to gain complete power and authority. They want complete control over Bihar. Their aim is to defeat Nitish Kumar by giving him a Rajya Sabha seat, sending him to Delhi and making him their chief minister in Bihar. This is completely possible.”.
On the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Alvi said, “Iran’s President Khamenei was a religious leader for the Shia community around the world. Just as there is a Pope for any large community, Khamenei was also in the same way. Today his son has taken his place. Israel’s statement of attacking him is a terrorist attack. Israel is a terrorist state, and the way it has tried to destroy Iran along with America is condemnable.”
Alvi further said “Thousands of people are being killed. More than 150 innocent children were killed in the bombing of a school. And it is extremely surprising and sad that India is silent. The Prime Minister of India is not ready to say even a word of sympathy towards Iran, which has been our friend for a long time. When other Muslim countries stood with Pakistan, Iran stood with us,” Alvi further said.
Amid speculation over Nitish Kumar’s resignation as Bihar Chief Minister, Janata Dal (United) sources on Wednesday said the veteran leader may move to Parliament’s Rajya Sabha, days after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced elections for the Upper House.
This development has come to light amid the ongoing meeting between Nitish Kumar, JDU National Working President Sanjay Jha and Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary at the Patna residence of the Bihar Chief Minister.
However, Union Minister Giriraj Singh refuted these speculations and said that the Bihar Chief Minister may resign and file nomination for Rajya Sabha. Singh said, “Such jokes on Holi are common. Nitish Kumar ji is our Chief Minister.” Meanwhile, JD-U MLC Sanjay Gandhi said that whether to enter Rajya Sabha or not, it will be Nitish Kumar’s decision.
“The Chief Minister himself will decide (whether he wants to go to Rajya Sabha or not). We had held a meeting to strengthen the organization in view of the elections,” he said. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule of the upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections, in which 37 seats from 10 states will be filled. The tenure of the members of the Assembly on these seats is ending in April 2026. This information has been given in a press release.
