The meeting between leaders of the Communist Party of China and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale at the RSS headquarters on Tuesday took political circles by surprise, with the Congress terming it a “change of colours”.

According to sources in the organization, the meeting, which lasted for about half an hour, was a courtesy call, which was initiated after the Communist Party of China (CPC) delegation expressed its desire to meet the RSS leadership. Sources said that no formal agenda was discussed during this conversation.

Earlier on Monday, CPC leaders met BJP general secretary Arun Singh and External Affairs Department convenor Vijay Chauthaiwale at the BJP headquarters. This meeting was also described as a part of ‘regular exchanges’. Vijay Chauthaiwale wrote on

During the discussion, the BJP delegation led by BJP General Secretary Arun Singh ji discussed in detail ways to further inter-party communication between the BJP and the CPC. The delegation also included Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong. Sources indicated that both the meetings were courtesy calls and should not be seen as formal or policy-level talks.

However, Congress leader Pawan Khera questioned BJP’s ties with China and hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that those who once talked about showing China “red eyes” have instead “rolled out the red carpet” for the neighboring country.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, Khera claimed that the BJP has maintained ties with the CPC even when it is not in power, and alleged that party leaders had visited China and RSS members had also gone there for training. He said, “The BJP has taught even a chameleon to change colours. Those who should have shown ‘red eyes’ towards China have instead rolled out the ‘red carpet’ for China. The BJP, the party of China, Have held meetings with CPC. Even when they were not in power, they used to go to China and hold meetings; RSS members went there for training.”

Khera said the party had no objection to political parties communicating with foreign political entities, but he criticized the BJP, accusing it of “duplicity and hypocrisy”.

He said “We have no objection to any political party meeting or communicating with a political party from another country. We have objection to the double standards, hypocrisy and deception of the BJP. For years the BJP has been shouting that the Congress has signed the MoU, and now they are holding the meetings themselves.”

He said, “Our concern is about the intentions of the BJP, because after such closed-door meetings, ultimately the country has to pay the price.” Furthermore, the Congress leader raised questions on the contradictions in the central government’s approach, accusing Prime Minister Modi of being “afraid of China”. He presented examples where the government discourages the use of Chinese products, while allegedly awarding contracts to Chinese companies.

He said, “What kind of relations do you have with China that you ask us not to buy Chinese decorative lights, yet give the contract for making meters in Jammu and Kashmir to a Chinese company? Why was Mandarin language being taught in Gujarat? Prime Minister Modi is afraid of China. The Prime Minister of this country has become the person who gives a clean chit at the slightest fear, and bows at the feet of America at the slightest praise. This country will not accept a Prime Minister who bows down.”

He further questioned whether major issues including the Shaksgam area and developments during Operation Sindoor were discussed during the meetings with the Chinese representatives. Quoting comments of a senior Army officer, Khera said China had supplied weapons to Pakistan, including PL-15 missiles, and alleged that despite this, Prime Minister Modi visited “on China’s terms”.

Kheda said “You are in power, and you held meetings in the party office, so we want to know – if not publicly, at least behind closed doors – did you show ‘red eye’? Did you raise the Shaksgam issue? Did you raise other issues? What happened during Operation Sindoor? A senior Army officer said that China was helping Pakistan, providing weapons, and had even provided screenshots. Despite this, Modi ji was critical of China. Started traveling on conditions.”

On Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning rejected India’s claim on the Shaksgam Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. Asked about border issues and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Mao said, “The area you mentioned belongs to China. It is completely appropriate for China to build infrastructure on its own soil.”

Meanwhile, after US President Donald Trump, Beijing also claimed its role in mediating between India and Pakistan during the four-day clash between the neighboring countries in May 2025. Congress leader Supriya Srinate on Monday attacked the BJP, saying that while on one hand China is setting up villages in Arunachal Pradesh, on the other hand people here are embracing each other.

Srinate posted on Also criticized the media for not asking questions.

Earlier, in 2020, BJP national president JP Nadda had criticized the Congress for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Communist Party in 2008, which he said had led to the then ruling party “ceding ground to China”.

“First, Congress signs an MoU with the Chinese Communist Party. Then, Congress hands over the land to China.” Rahul Gandhi secretly visited the Chinese embassy during the Doklam standoff. In critical situations, Rahul Gandhi tries to divide the country and demoralize the armed forces. Are these the effects of the MoU? Nadda posted this on X in 2020.
