Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launched UPI in Lulu Hypermarket in Doha

India’s digital payment system UPI system has now started officially in Qatar. India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal launched the UPI at Lulu Hypermarket of Doha, the capital of Qatar. Now UPI payment will be available through Qatar National Bank (QNB) network on all point-off-cell (POS) terminals of Qatar.

Qatar became the 8th country in the world with the facility of UPI

Qatar has become the 8th country in the world where UPI facility is available. Apart from Qatar, UPI payment has started in Bhutan, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka, France, Nepal and UAE. Initially in September 2025, the UPI service was launched only at the duty-free stores of Hamad International Airport, but now it has been extended to the shops of the major retail stores, especially Lulu Group, especially Lulu Group. This facility will prove to be very beneficial for Indian travelers, migrants and Indians living in Qatar, as it will make real-time digital payments and fast remedies (sending India) easier.

Trade and tourism will get a boost between India and Qatar

At the launch, Piyush Goyal said, “India’s own UPI has now started in Doha, Qatar. It is a major change in the world of digital connectivity and payment. This will promote trade and tourism between India and Qatar.”

How to use UPI in Qatar

First of all, you should check your UPI app (eg Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm) whether it supports international payments. Second option find UPI QR code on stores connected to QNB’s network. Third option scan the QR code from your app, enter the amount and pay by putting UPI PIN. Then your payment will be confirmed immediately in real-time.
