Congress has declared a total of 61 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections.The party has announced a total of 61 candidates in five times, however, due to the long deadlock over seat sharing in the Grand Alliance, the picture regarding the number of seats of the constituent parties could not be clear.
There are some seats where the opposition grand alliance has candidates from more than one constituent party. If there is no consensus on withdrawal of candidates’ names at these places, then “friendly competition” may also take place on some seats.
The party on Monday declared Minnat Rahmani as its candidate from Supaul. The party had earlier given ticket to Anupam on this seat, but his candidature was withdrawn as controversy arose after some of Anupam’s old tweets went viral in which he had made controversial remarks about Rahul Gandhi while he was away from the Congress.
Before joining Congress in September, 2024, Anupam was the president of an organization called ‘Yuva Halla Bol’. He has been continuously raising issues like unemployment, youth problems and NEET paper leak.
Congress released the fourth list of six candidates late on Sunday night. Surendra Prasad Kushwaha from Valmikinagar, Abidur Rehman from Araria, Jalil Mastan from Amour, Tauqeer Alam from Barari, Praveen Singh Kushwaha from Kahalgaon and Vinod Chaudhary from Sikandra have been made candidates.
The party had released its first list of 48 candidates on Thursday, in which the names of party state unit president Rajesh Ram and legislature party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan were prominent.
Congress on Friday declared Rishi Narayan Mishra, the grandson of former Railway Minister Lalit Narayan Mishra, as its candidate from Jale assembly constituency in Darbhanga district.
The party had declared five more candidates on Saturday.
Voting for Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.
