What is the news:
The Union Cabinet approved a total of ₹37,952 crore as nutrient based subsidy for Rabi season 2025 and also approved the terms and conditions of the 8th Central Pay Commission. This decision is an important step related to farmers and central government employees and pensioners.

Two major decisions were taken in the Union Cabinet meeting today. The first decision is related to fertilizer subsidy for Rabi season 2025 and the second is to approve the terms of the 8th Central Pay Commission (PAGATH). The meeting was chaired by the Prime Minister.

This will have a direct impact on farmers and fertilizer manufacturing companies because these subsidies will affect the price and availability of fertilizers. Besides, the class of government employees and pensioners will also be affected because the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission cover lakhs of people. A rise in the shares of fertilizer companies was also seen in the market.

The details of the work are: This subsidy is for Rabi 2025 and the total amount is fixed at ₹37,952 crore. Subsidy rates are mentioned above. The structure, terms and timeline of the 8th Pay Commission have been approved by the Prime Minister. The Commission’s recommendations include inclusion of about 50 lakh central employees and about 69 lakh pensioners, including defense services personnel.

What happens next: The new subsidy rates will be applicable from October 1, 2025. The further process will be completed as per the work outline and timeline of the 8th Pay Commission and the concerned departments will give instructions for implementation.
