Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday alleged that the ideology of Manusmriti, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will “destroy the country”, and said ultimately only the ideology of the opposition party will save the country’s Constitution from being destroyed.
“Only the ideology of the Congress party can save the country; the ideology of Mohan Bhagwat, Madhav Rao Gauwalkar Guruji or Manusmriti will not save the country, but will destroy it. The path the BJP and Prime Minister Modi are on, they are slowly trying to destroy the Constitution,” he said.
Addressing the ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ march at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, the Congress president praised Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to “save the country” and protect the public vote.
Kharge said, “Rahul Gandhi is struggling for the country, and it is the responsibility of all of us to strengthen that struggle, this is what I request all of you. If you do not strengthen those ideas then it is your loss, the country’s loss, not theirs. If you want to save the country, if you want to save your vote, want to protect it, if you want to save the Constitution, then you can work for yourself. The work of taking forward our ideology, our ideas is Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi is doing it, today Priyanka is also doing it.”
Launching a scathing attack on the party, Kharge alleged that the ideology of ‘Sangh Parivar’ was trying to enslave people under the guise of Hindu religion.
“All are in the name of Hindu religion, but under the guise of Hindu religion they want to enslave people. If you want to become a slave, if you give up your self-respect, your end is certain. The freedom we got (from the British) was given by Congress. Did Modi give it? Modi was not even born then. Amit Shah was just a child then. These people speak against Nehru, Gandhi and Ambedkar,” he said.
Mallikarjun Kharge further said, “They want to pretend that Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were fighting among themselves, and on the other hand they steal votes. These are traitors; you have to remove these traitors. If you want to protect your rights and become strong, remove these traitors. Rahul Gandhi had marched 800 kilometers on foot on this issue too.”
The Congress rally is taking place amid intense political activity over the party’s campaign against alleged electoral irregularities. The party has intensified its campaign on alleged “vote theft” and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue. Party leaders have described the incident as an important step in the decisive political battle against the BJP-led government.
During the rally, many party leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi addressed the gathering. Priyanka Gandhi alleged that the BJP is not willing to discuss real issues like price rise and pollution and instead prefers to discuss the origin of the song Vande Mataram.
