Now an important step has been taken to make the journey of metro passengers in Delhi-NCR even easier and convenient. After getting down from metro stations, passengers often had to face arbitrary auto or cab rates to reach home or office, but now this problem has been solved. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched a new initiative to provide better ‘last mile connectivity’ to the passengers, under which ‘Bharat Taxi’ service will now be made available from major stations at very affordable rates.
Agreement signed with Sahakar Taxi Co-operative Limited, starting from Botanical Garden and Millennium City Center
To implement this ambitious scheme, DMRC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ‘Sahakar Taxi Co-operative Limited’. According to officials, this service has currently been started as a pilot project. Although the plan is for 10 major stations, in the initial phase it has been started from two major stations—Botanical Garden and Millennium City Center (Gurugram). Bike taxi, auto rickshaw and cab facilities are being provided to the passengers at these stations, so that the passengers will be able to choose the vehicle as per their need and budget.
The results of the pilot project will be studied closely till January 31, expansion will depend on the response of passengers.
DMRC has clarified that the pilot project will be thoroughly studied till January 31 to test the success and usefulness of this new service. During this time it will be seen how much this service is being liked by the passengers and what kind of problems they are facing. Based on the feedback received from passengers and the usage data of the service, a decision will be taken whether it should be implemented at other stations of the network or not. The main objective of the administration is to make the metro network more passenger-friendly.
Special survey will be conducted to identify the 10 busiest metro stations of Delhi-NCR
Regarding future plans, DMRC officials said that before expanding the service, the 10 busiest metro stations of Delhi-NCR will be identified. For this, a special survey will be conducted so that it can be known which stations have the highest pressure of passengers and where this taxi service is needed the most. After this survey, Bharat Taxi facilities will be introduced at other stations also in a phased manner with the aim to benefit maximum passengers.
There will be relief from pollution and traffic jams, environment friendly transport system will get a boost
DMRC believes that this initiative is not limited to just saving passengers’ pockets and time, but will also have a wider impact on the environment of Delhi-NCR. Providing organized and affordable taxi service from metro stations will reduce the use of private vehicles, which will help in reducing traffic jams and vehicular pollution on the roads. Through this service, thousands of passengers will now be able to get the benefit of safe, accessible and environment-friendly travel from the metro station to their destination.
