What is the current condition of students stranded in Iran?
Most of the students stranded there are from Jammu and Kashmir and are living in cities like Qom, Urmia, Arak and Isfahan. These students had stayed there for the Uloompaya exam to be held on March 5, which had to be postponed due to the attacks. The Indian Embassy in Tehran is currently sending these students to safe places in Qom through special buses. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has also made it clear that evacuating the students safely is the first priority of the government and this work is being done gradually.
Difficulties in returning home and ticket expenses
The Indian Embassy has advised students to go to Armenia or Azerbaijan by road, but they will have to do this journey at their own risk and expense. According to student organizations (AIMSA), the flight ticket from Armenia to India has currently crossed Rs 1.2 lakh, which is a big problem for common families. Let us tell you that from February 28, 2026 till now, the Government of India has safely evacuated more than 67,000 citizens from West Asia.
