Even before the beginning of the New Year, the entire North India is in the grip of severe cold. Dense fog has affected life in the plains, due to which visibility has reduced significantly. During the coming 48 hours, very dense fog is expected in the morning in many states including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. In eastern Uttar Pradesh also, the period of dense fog is expected to continue till the beginning of the new year i.e. January 1.
Dense fog will remain in these states including Punjab, Haryana, UP and Bihar till the beginning of the new year, warning of cold day.
According to the latest forecast, there is a possibility of dense fog in the morning in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, North Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till January 1. At the same time, dense fog may persist in the North-Eastern Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland till January 3. Along with fog, a warning of ‘cold day’ (extremely cold day) has also been issued for these states, due to which there is no possibility of people getting relief from the cold.
The mercury dropped by 2.1 degrees in Hisar, Haryana, the temperature remained between 5 to 10 degrees in many states.
The effect of cold wave is being seen in the form of a huge drop in temperature. The lowest minimum temperature in the plains of India was recorded at 2.1 degrees Celsius in Hisar, Haryana. Apart from this, severe cold is also occurring in Madhya Pradesh, North Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Marathwada, Chhattisgarh and Sikkim. The minimum temperature in these areas is being recorded in the range of 5 degrees to 10 degrees Celsius, due to which the chill has increased significantly at night and morning.
Snowfall on the mountains and rain in the plains will increase the problem, weather may worsen in Andaman also
Rain and snowfall are also expected amid cold and fog. There is a strong possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad from December 30 to January 2. During the same period, there may be snowfall along with rain in some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Talking about the plains, light to moderate rain may occur in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Western Rajasthan on December 30, while Western Uttar Pradesh may receive light rain on January 1. Apart from this, strong winds with speed of 30-40 kmph and lightning are very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during December 30-31.
