New Delhi. A woman named Priyanka Rai was bitten by a stray dog in the country’s capital. The woman asked for compensation of Rs 20 lakh from MCD. The matter went to Delhi High Court and now the court has sought response from MCD on the woman’s petition. Priyanka has said in the petition that she should be given a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the physical, mental and financial loss caused by the stray dog bite. According to Priyanka Rai, she was going on a bike in March 2025. He was bitten in the leg by a stray dog near Khirki Gaon Road in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. According to the woman, she was attacked by a pack of stray dogs.
Priyanka Rai says that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had fixed the formula for giving compensation for such cases in 2023. Under which he should get compensation of Rs 20 lakh. Justice Vinod S. of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Bhardwaj had said in his decision that based on the count of dog’s teeth marks, a compensation of Rs 10,000 will have to be paid for each mark. The High Court had decided to give a minimum compensation of Rs 20,000 for a 0.2 cm wound if flesh had come out due to a dog bite. The same formula was decided by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on attacks by other animals.
According to the woman, the dog bit her and left a 12 cm wound on her leg. In this way a compensation of Rs 12 lakh is made. At the same time, based on the number of dog teeth marks, Priyanka Rai has asked for compensation of Rs 4.2 lakh. Apart from this, Priyanka Rai has said that she suffered mental trauma due to the bite of a stray dog and for this she should get a compensation of Rs 3.8 lakh. In this way, he asked for a total compensation of Rs 20 lakh from MCD. Justice Mini Pushkarna of Delhi High Court has sent a notice to MCD on this petition.
