14 Naxalites were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Saturday. Police officials gave this information.
Police officials said that security forces killed 12 Naxalites in Sukma district and two more in neighboring Bijapur district.
A senior police officer said that an encounter took place between security forces and Naxalites during an anti-Naxal operation in the forest of the southern area in Sukma district.
He said, “More than 10 Naxalites have been killed so far. The operation is still going on. Detailed information in this regard will be given later.”
Another official said that two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in the southern area of Bijapur district.
He said that based on information about the presence of armed Maoists in the southern area of Bijapur district, a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was sent on a search operation.
The official said that intermittent encounter is going on between security forces and Naxalites in the area since 5 am on Saturday.
He said that so far the bodies of two Naxalites have been recovered from the encounter site.
Officials said that the operation is still going on, hence the location of the encounter, the number of security forces involved in the operation and other sensitive information cannot be shared at this time to ensure the safety of the soldiers involved in the operation.He informed that detailed information will be shared after the completion of the campaign.
Last year, security forces had killed 285 Naxalites in encounters.
