A major change is going to happen in the Ganga Marine Drive project being built from Bhagalpur to Munger. There has been a proposal to shift this project costing approximately Rs 9,000 crore by 40 meters towards the north. Sultanganj MLA Prof. Lalit Narayan Mandal has put forth this point after meeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Its main objective is to ensure that no family’s house is destroyed during the construction of Marine Drive. The Chief Minister has assured to solve this problem.

What is Ganga Marine Drive Project?

There is a plan to build a marine drive along the banks of river Ganga from Bhagalpur to Munger. This is a big infrastructure project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 9,000 crore. This project is being constructed by Adani Enterprises.

What did the MLA say to CM Nitish Kumar?

Sultanganj MLA Prof. Lalit Narayan Mandal met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. They submitted a formal application to the Chief Minister, proposing to shift Marine Drive 40 meters north from its proposed location. The MLA said that the main goal of this change is that no family’s house should be destroyed due to the project. The Chief Minister assured to solve the problem keeping in mind the needs of the people. The MLA also talked to Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department Kapil Dev on this subject, from where they got positive assurance.

How many houses were being affected, and whether compensation would be received or not?

The survey was conducted by a 12-member expert team on the instructions of Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL). In this survey it was revealed that more than 250 houses were coming up on the original proposed route of Marine Drive. Officials said that if these houses are built on government land, they will be considered encroachment and notice will be given. At the same time, the owners of houses which are built on private land are likely to get compensation as per rules.

Information Details Estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs 9,000 crore. Houses affected on the original proposed route are more than 250.

What other development works are proposed in Sultanganj?

During the meeting with the Chief Minister, MLA Prof. Lalit Narayan Mandal also raised the issue of ‘Pacca Stair Ghat’ project on the lines of Ganga River Front in Sultanganj. Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar has also talked to Finance Department Chief Secretary Anand Kishor about this. Work on this project is also expected to start soon. The MLA said that in view of the Shravani Mela, the construction of a concrete staircase ghat will be started soon, so that lakhs of Kanwariyas and devotees can get the facility to bathe in the Ganga.

What will be the benefits of these projects?

Pro. Lalit Narayan Mandal said that projects like Ganga Marine Drive and Ganga River Front will develop Sultanganj. These projects will boost tourism, which will strengthen the local economy. Besides, new employment opportunities will also be created in the area. The ‘Pacca Seedhi Ghat’ will provide a lot of convenience to the Kanwariyas and devotees coming especially during the Shravani Mela.
