Afghan Foreign Minister Aamir Khan Muttaki acknowledged that India has always stood for the interests of the people of Afghanistan. He expressed gratitude for the help sent by India after the devastation caused by the earthquake in Afghanistan. He also assured not to allow his land to be used against India in any way. At a time when Pakistan’s relations with both India and Afghanistan have deteriorated, this meeting of Mutaki and Jaishankar is considered very important.

Pakistan was already irritated about the friendly relations between India and Afghanistan and now the Indian Foreign Minister’s announcement of opening an embassy in Kabul will put Pakistan’s leaders in tension. Earlier, Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, while reacting to Muttaki’s visit to India, had said that Afghans have always been loyal to India and against Pakistan. India closed its embassy in Afghanistan after the Taliban rule began four years ago. Mutaki is the first foreign minister of the Taliban government to visit India.
