Following widespread disruption across its network, IndiGo on Saturday said it planned to operate over 1500 flights by the end of the day, and confirmed there were some “early signs of improvement”. In a statement, the airline said it canceled a large number of flights on December 5, while operating over 700 services to destinations as part of a massive system reboot.
The airline said the reset was necessary to stabilize operations, improve schedules and start with a stronger network on Saturday. “In view of the recent disruptions in our network, we canceled a large number of flights and operated over 700 flights to 113 destinations yesterday,” an IndiGo spokesperson said in an official statement.
“The main objective was to get the network, systems and roster back up and running so that we can start fresh from today with more flights, better stability and some early signs of recovery are visible. Today, we are on track to operate more than 1,500 flights by the end of the day,” it said.
The airline also said that more than 95% of its network connectivity has now been restored, and operations have resumed to 135 out of its total 138 destinations. “With respect to destinations, more than 95% of its network connectivity has already been restored, as we are able to operate to 135 out of the existing 138 destinations,” the airline spokesperson said.
The statement further said, “While we understand we still have a long way to go, we are committed to regaining the trust of our customers. We would like to thank all of our partners and government agencies for their continued support and guidance. Most of all, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our customers and employees for their patience and cooperation during this difficult time. We once again apologize.”
Earlier today, thousands of passengers were stranded due to widespread disruption in flight services across the country, amid which IndiGo on Saturday said it was working to stabilize its operations. The airline said the number of canceled flights has come down by 850 compared to the previous day and urged passengers to check the latest flight status online and get refunds if necessary.
According to the airline’s statement, “IndiGo is working vigorously to get its operations back on track across the network. Our teams are focused on keeping schedules stable, minimizing delays and supporting customers during this period. The number of flights canceled today has come down to 850, which is significantly lower than yesterday. We will continue to work to gradually reduce this number over the next few days.”
The statement said, “We are addressing refunds of all customers on a priority basis. We are working closely with all airports and partners to ensure that timely updates are provided to customers at the terminals, on our website and through direct notifications. We urge our customers to check the latest flight status at https://www.goindigo.in/check-flight-status.html before visiting the airport as we further enhance our processes.” We are working diligently to add flexibility. For refund assistance, please visit https://www.goindigo.in/refund.html or contact our customer support.”
IndiGo’s operations across India were severely disrupted on Saturday too, with over 100 flights cancelled, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at airports in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Guwahati and other cities.
