A senior cleric of Iran has made it clear that his country does not wish to make a nuclear bomb. Tehran’s Friday Prayer Imam Ahmad Khatami said Iran will continue uranium enrichment. He has rejected the demands coming from all over the world to stop this program. Meanwhile, America has imposed new restrictions on Iran’s oil trade.
Talks held in Oman and Iran’s stance
Indirect talks have taken place between Iran and America on the nuclear issue in Muscat, the capital of Oman. This included Steve Witkoff from America’s side and Abbas Araghchi from Iran’s side. Both sides have described the atmosphere as positive and have agreed to continue the talks further. However, Iranian cleric Khatami has insisted that the purpose of nuclear energy is not to make bombs, but he will not stop his program. He said that the demand to stop work due to external pressure has no meaning for him.
Who has America banned?
The US has imposed tough sanctions on 15 companies and 14 ships to stop Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical trade. These companies and ships were helping to sell Iran’s oil illegally. According to the US Treasury Department, some firms based in India, UAE and China have also come under the purview of these sanctions. Its purpose is to stop Iran’s earnings so that it cannot invest money in nuclear or military works.
