Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During this, both the leaders discussed the ongoing military tension and security issues in the region. PM Modi strongly condemned the attacks on UAE by Iran and expressed India’s full support for the security and sovereignty of UAE. Due to the recent attacks, security has been tightened in UAE and people have been instructed to remain alert.
What was the impact on flights and normal life?
In view of the threat of attacks, UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) had completely closed the country’s airspace from 3 am to 5 am as a precaution. Flights were resumed at 5:05 am after security checks, but flight timings are still unstable. Passengers have been advised to contact the airline before traveling to the airport.
In view of security, messages have been sent to the mobile phones of people in Dubai and other affected areas through Emergency Alert System (EAS). In this, people have been asked to stay in safe places. Apart from this, schools in many areas have been converted to online classes (remote learning) for the safety of students.
UAE government’s strict steps regarding security
UAE’s air defense system destroyed 10 ballistic missiles and 45 drones fired by Iran in the air. However, following a drone attack, work at the Shah gas plant has been halted and the damage caused there is being assessed.
The UAE government has imposed strict restrictions on videography of sensitive and restricted areas. A person has also been arrested for making videos of such places in Fujairah without a permit. PM Modi has talked about ensuring safe navigation in the ‘Strait of Hormuz’ and restoration of peace soon. At the same time, UAE President’s advisor Anwar Gargash said that UAE has every right to protect itself, but at present the country is insisting on resolving the issue through dialogue.
