As assembly elections in Bihar approach, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal-United (JDU) has expelled 11 leaders, including a former minister, on charges of anti-party activities and “disobeying its ideology”.
A statement issued by JD(U) state unit general secretary Chandan Kumar Singh on Saturday evening said that all the 11 leaders have also been suspended from the primary membership of the party. “The party found that all these 11 leaders were involved in anti-party activities in the state, following which the party took disciplinary action,” he said.
The leaders who have been expelled include former minister Shailesh Kumar, former MLAs Shyam Bahadur Singh and Sudharshan Kumar and former legislative councilors Sanjay Prasad and Ranvijay Singh.
Reacting to the development, a senior JD(U) leader said, “These leaders were working against the official candidates of the party and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). They were disregarding our ideology.
Elections to the 243-member assembly in Bihar will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11 and the counting of votes will be done on November 14.
