Construction of new tunnels and alternative routes is being seriously considered to ease the journey from Gaurikund to Sonprayag, the most important and challenging leg of the Kedarnath Yatra. The main objective of this scheme is to reduce the travel time and to free the devotees from steep climbs and narrow paths. After the implementation of the new system, devotees will be able to reach Baba Kedar’s court in less time and with less fatigue, which will provide special facilities to the elderly and children.
Will get relief from natural obstacles like rain and snowfall, Chardham Yatra will be able to continue uninterrupted for most of the year.
Currently, the biggest challenge during travel is the uncertainty of the weather. Roads often get closed due to heavy rains and snowfall, leaving thousands of travelers stranded midway. Due to the construction of the proposed new tunnel, the impact of weather on travel will be minimal. After the construction of the tunnel, the problem of landslides and road closure will be eliminated to a great extent, which will make it possible to conduct the yatra for more part of the year and will also ensure the safety of the devotees.
