The Delhi High Court on Tuesday suspended the sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving life imprisonment in the Unnao rape case.
Justice Subramaniam Prasad and Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar granted bail to Sengar by directing him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 15 lakh and three sureties of the same amount.
A bench headed by Justice Subramaniam Prasad ordered the sentence to be suspended during the pendency of the petition challenging the trial court’s order. The High Court has ordered Sengar to remain in Delhi during his bail and stay five kilometers away from the victim’s residence. Sengar has challenged the trial court’s decision in the High Court, which is still pending.
Let us tell you that on December 16, 2019, Tis Hazari Court had sentenced Kuldeep Singh Sengar to ten years of imprisonment in the case of custodial murder of the rape victim’s father. Tis Hazari court had also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Sengar. Tis Hazari court had sentenced all the seven accused including Sengar to ten years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh each.
