Two Assam Rifles personnel, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), were killed in a terrorist attack in Nambol Sabal area of Bishnupur district of Manipur. Five other people were injured in Humle.
The incident occurred at around 5:50 pm on September 19 when a vehicle-based contingent of 33 Assam Rifles personnel was moving from its tatsoi company operating base towards Nambol Company Operating Base. In the general region of Nambol Sabal Leicai, unknown terrorists ambushed the troop in the highway in Manipur.
Officials said the militants opened fire on the vehicle carrying the soldiers and later fled in a white van. The Ghails have been taken to RIMS Hospital and their condition is currently stable.
Senior officials said, “The soldiers showed restraint while retaliating so that no civilians would be casualty.” No group has taken responsibility for the attack yet. Officials said that security forces have started a search operation to catch the terrorists involved in the incident.
