MG Hector warranty dispute: Claim of 5 years guarantee, truth revealed in 3 years – big question on consumer rights

A consumer from Delhi has made serious allegations against JSW-MG Motor India and its dealer regarding the warranty of MG Hector car. The case pertains to a crack in the car’s infotainment touchscreen and alleged misrepresentation of warranty terms. The consumer says that he was assured of a 5-year warranty at the time of purchase, but was later informed that only 3 years of warranty is applicable on the infotainment system.

What is the whole matter?

Delhi resident Mohit Chaurasia had purchased MG Hector in April 2021. He says that the dealer had clearly assured him of 5 years warranty and on this basis he purchased the car.

In September 2024, a crack was discovered in the car’s large touchscreen infotainment system. Initially this crack was not visible because the lamination cover already installed on the screen hid it. When the problem was reported to the dealer, they were asked to replace the screen at a cost of around ₹1 lakh. It was also claimed that the warranty of the infotainment system is only 3 years.

Mohit Chaurasia alleges that this information was never given to him at the time of purchase. Later in January 2026 after continuous complaining and emails the dealer offered “Free Repair” but the consumer rejected it. He says that this is not just a matter of repair but of selling by giving wrong information.

company side

JSW-MG Motor India says:

Crack on touchscreen is external/physical damage

This is not covered under warranty

All terms are clearly written in the Owner’s Manual, which is available on the website

The company also says that no repair can be done without the customer’s consent.

consumer question

Mohit Chaurasia has raised the question:

Who is responsible if complete warranty information is not given at the time of purchase?

Is it right to expect the customer to look up every condition on the website or in the manual?

Is it the customer’s fault for trusting the dealer?

The case is now pending in the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Dwarka.

Why is this matter important?

This dispute is not just about a car or a screen, but about consumer rights, transparency and trust. If the allegations are proven true, this case raises big questions on warranty and sales processes in the automobile sector.
