A good news has emerged for the people of Bihar. The Central Government has approved the construction of a new greenfield airport at Sonepur (Saran) to improve air services in the state. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol has announced this. After this decision, connectivity is expected to improve in many districts of Bihar. Along with this, preparations to build airports in Rajgir and Bhagalpur have also intensified.

In which cities will new airports be built?
The Central Government has given in-principle approval to the proposal to build greenfield airports at three places in Bihar. Apart from Sonepur, it includes Rajgir and Bhagalpur. Along with this, the old airport (Brownfield) in Raxaul will be developed.
New civil enclaves will be built at Bihta and Purnia airports so that common people can travel from there. According to officials, after the survey in Rajgir, now the AAI team will do OLS survey in Sonepur also. The government aims to strengthen air connectivity within the state.
There is a plan for 15 airports in the budget
Bihar Deputy CM and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary, while presenting the Budget 2025-26, has drawn a blueprint for the development of airports in the state. The government plans to develop a total of 15 airports. For this, an estimated cost of Rs 115 crore (11,500 lakh) has been fixed in the initial phase.
In this scheme, there are preparations to connect small cities also by air route. The list includes cities like Bhagalpur, Valmikinagar, Birpur, Madhubani, Munger, Saharsa and Muzaffarpur. Small airstrips at these places will be repaired or new facilities will be expanded.
