This information was shared by a handle of Saudi News, after which there was a stir in the Indian expatriates and shipping sector. However, the Government of India and the concerned ministries have shared the latest information on this, which makes it clear that the situation is not as it is being said in the claims on social media.

Are Indian ships really captured in Hormuz?
The Government of India and the Navy have clarified that Indian flagged ships are passing through this route safely. The government is continuously monitoring the situation of ships in the Gulf region.
On 6 April 2026, an LPG tanker named Green Asha has crossed this route safely. Only one ship named Jag Vikram is currently awaiting instructions from the Navy. The Green Sanvi ship has also already passed safely and is expected to reach the Indian port by 7th April. The presence of 16 ships in the Gulf area does not mean their capture but their general presence there.
Major steps taken for the security of Indian ships
In view of the ongoing tension in West Asia, India has significantly increased the security of its maritime trade lines. For this, the Indian Navy has started Operation Urja Suraksha so that the supply of oil and gas remains uninterrupted. According to the ministry, a total of 17 ships are present in the western part of the Gulf with 460 Indian sailors on board and they are being constantly monitored. India is also holding talks at the diplomatic level so that the movement of ships remains safe under international laws. In a meeting held in Britain, India has also discussed keeping this sea route open.
