On the first anniversary of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the Indian Army on Wednesday reiterated its resolve against terrorism, recalling the decisive military action taken under ‘Operation Sindoor’ and assured retaliation for acts against India.

On 22 April 2025, the entire nation was shocked by the attack by terrorists in the tourist town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorists entered a village and killed 26 civilians. Pahalgam, a tourist destination rich in natural beauty, became drenched in blood when Pakistan-backed terrorists killed many innocent people.

On the first anniversary of this heinous attack, the Indian Army remembered ‘Operation Sindoor’ and warned terrorists against crossing the border.

To mark the anniversary, the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) wrote in a post on Twitter: “Acts against India will definitely be answered for. Justice will be served. Always.” Along with this, he also shared a picture of Sindoor on which it was written, “Operation Sindoor continues.”

In the cross-border communal attack in Pahalgam, the attackers allegedly interrogated the victims about their religion before killing them, leaving the families reeling even after a year.

While India was mourning the loss, the Indian Armed Forces took decisive action in the form of Operation Sindoor. Indian armed forces carried out strikes on terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).

Following the attack, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, 2025, aimed at targeting terror infrastructure spread across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

According to official information, Indian Armed Forces destroyed nine major terrorist launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen and killed more than 100 terrorists during this operation.

This was followed by drone strikes and shelling by Pakistan, leading to a four-day conflict between the two neighboring countries. India displayed strong defence, retaliated and destroyed radar installations at Lahore and radar facilities located near Gurjanwala.

Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), suffering heavy losses, telephoned the Indian DGMO and a ceasefire was agreed upon on 10 May.

Moreover, Operation Mahadev last year was another major joint success of the Army and security forces as they tracked down and killed three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack.

In non-military actions, India terminated the Indus Water Treaty and all bilateral trade with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reiterated India’s determination to fight terrorism in all its forms while paying tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a post on Twitter, the Prime Minister expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and affirmed that the country is united in mourning and determined to foil the “heinous designs of terrorists”.

The Prime Minister wrote, “I remember the innocent people who lost their lives in the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with the families of the victims in this hour of grief. As a nation, we are united in grief and determination. India will never bow down to terrorism in any form. The nefarious designs of the terrorists will never succeed.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it clear that “if there is any terrorist attack on India, it will be given a befitting reply” and India will “make no distinction between a government sponsoring terrorism and the masterminds of terrorism.” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has said that “Operation Sindoor is still going on.”

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi described Operation Sindoor as the best example of “coordination between the three services under clear political direction”. “Operation Sindoor was the best example of coordination between the three services under clear political direction and complete freedom to act or react,” he said at a press conference.

The Indian Air Force also played a decisive role in this operation and on the eve of the 93rd Air Force Day, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh said that Operation Sindoor was a defining moment which demonstrated the precision, strength and unity of purpose of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in responding to the “nefarious” (cowardly) act of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi highlighted that the deployment of the aircraft carrier battle group in the North Arabian Sea affected Pakistan’s naval activities, due to which they remained close to their ports.

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day 2025, Prime Minister Modi announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, which aims to neutralize hostile infiltration and enhance India’s strike capabilities.
