New Delhi. The winter session of Parliament got off to a stormy start. On the very first day, opposition members created ruckus in both the houses of Parliament regarding SIR and other issues. There was a mild scuffle in the Rajya Sabha between Union Minister JP Nadda and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. On the other hand, amid sloganeering by opposition members in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Manipur GST Bill 2025, which was passed without discussion. After this the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till tomorrow.

#WATCH Delhi: Responding to Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of House in Rajya Sabha JP Nadda says, “We must maintain the dignity of the felicitation program, and it would be good if we discuss it accordingly. On the other hand, Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge mentioned former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in the welcome speech of Chairman CP Radhakrishnan. Kharge said, I hope you will not mind that I have to mention the unexpected and sudden resignation of your predecessor from the post of Chairman. The Speaker, being the guardian of the entire House, is equally important for the Government as well as the Opposition. I am sad that the House did not get an opportunity to bid him farewell. However, on behalf of the entire opposition, I wish him a healthy life.

Responding to Kharge’s question, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha JP Nadda said, we should maintain the dignity of the felicitation ceremony and it would be good if we discuss on that basis. If we start discussing the issue that our Leader of the Opposition raised today, I think it is irrelevant. Here again there will be discussion on the fact that you had called him a cheer leader, not once or twice you had brought a no-confidence motion against him, I think our opposition leader is very respectable. The defeat in Bihar, Haryana and Maharashtra has hurt you a lot and you should express your problems to the doctor. Earlier, Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan said, as a member of the Upper House, our dharma is to work with commitment to fulfill the reasonable aspirations of the people.
