Petrol-CNG vehicles will be expensive in Delhi, preparations to increase registration fees and green tax

In view of the deepening pollution crisis in the capital Delhi, the government is now moving towards taking tough and big decisions. If you are planning to buy a new vehicle running on petrol or CNG in Delhi, then it may prove to be heavy on your pocket in the coming days. The entire emphasis of the government is now on discouraging polluting vehicles, for which a strategy is being prepared to make these vehicles expensive. Under this, along with imposing additional environmental fee (green tax) on petrol and CNG vehicles, registration fees can also be increased.

Preparation of strict provisions in the new policy to promote electric vehicles instead of conventional fuel vehicles.

In this fight against pollution, the government’s intention is clear that people should gradually leave petrol and CNG and shift to electric vehicles (EV). This is why such proposals have been included in the new electric vehicle policy, which will make the purchase of vehicles running on conventional fuel expensive. Experts and former Transport Minister Anil Chhichhra also argue that merely making electric vehicles cheaper or giving subsidy on them is not enough. Unless strict steps are taken against pollution caused by petrol and CNG vehicles, it is difficult to improve air quality.

There may also be a huge increase in parking fees and one-time charges, so that both the burden of vehicles and pollution on the roads is reduced.

This scheme of the government will not be limited to just purchasing vehicles, but putting them on the road can also be expensive. According to the proposal, the one-time charge at the time of registration of new vehicles can be increased. Apart from this, consideration is also going on to increase the parking fees. It is believed that these steps will not only curb the increasing number of private vehicles, but will also reduce the level of both traffic and pollution in the city. At present, the government will give its final approval to this proposal only after taking the opinion of all parties.
