Pathanamthitta. A major accident involving President Draupadi Murmu was averted on Wednesday. After having darshan of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala, President Murmu landed in an Air Force helicopter at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Pramadam in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. After the President’s helicopter landed, the helipad suddenly caved in. Due to which President Murmu’s helicopter tilted to one side. Its wheels also got stuck in the helipad. As soon as this happened, the police and fire brigade personnel present on the spot ran and pulled the helicopter out safely. It is being told that the helipad was prepared in the stadium by pouring concrete last night itself. Because of this it could not dry properly.

According to district officials, earlier President Draupadi Murmu’s helicopter was to be landed at Nilakkal, but due to bad weather, a new helipad was made at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium at Pramadam in Pathanamthitta to land the helicopter. Concrete was poured for the helipad late on Tuesday night and it could not harden completely. In such a situation, due to the heavy helicopter of the Air Force not being able to bear the weight, it sank to one side. News agency PTI has informed that a senior police officer said that at the last moment, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium was chosen as the landing site of President Murmu’s helicopter.
